To Friends of the Reformation Society
Dear Friends
Greetings in the precious Name of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
Freedom of Religion Under Attack
Please tune in tonight, Tuesday, 7 July at 9:30pm, on Salt and Light (Radio Tygerberg 104FM), as we consider disturbing recent trends infringing on freedom of speech, freedom of conscience, freedom of religion, freedom of association, and even freedom of thought. Churches, families and individuals are being tied up in time wasting and expensive litigation. Pastors and chaplains have been harassed for preaching what the Word of God teachers. People have been fired from their jobs. Teachers have been kicked out of schools. A UCT student has been victimised for expressing her Christian conviction. A rising tide of intolerance and bullying is threatening families, businesses, ministries and churches. "It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not allow yourselves to be burdened again with the yolk of slavery… you, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature; rather serve one another in love." Galatians 5:13
Nearly 500 years ago Dr. Martin Luther declared: "If I profess with the loudest voice and clearest exposition, every portion of the truth of God, except precisely that point which the world and the devil are at that moment attacking, then I am not confessing Christ, however boldly I may be professing him. Where the battle rages, there the loyalty of the soldier is proved and to be steady on all the battlefront besides is mere flight and disgrace, if he flinches at that point."
If you live in Cape Town, you can tune in to Radio Tygerberg 104FM, or you can listen online on www.104fm.org.za through live streaming worldwide.
70 Years Ago - Were the Atom Bombs Morally and Militarily Justified?
Please join us this Thursday, 9 July at 19:30 at the Reformation Society, as I deal with the 70th Anniversary of the dropping of the atom bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. This year, 50,000 Scouts worldwide will be gathering in Japan for the 23rd World Scout Jamboree. This has been scheduled to coincide with the 70th anniversary of the dropping of the atom bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Special Remembrance services will be held, with scouts participating, at the sites where the devastating atom bombs were dropped. As my son is one of those scouts participating in this historic event, it led me to undertake a thorough investigation of this subject: Were the atom bombs necessary to end the Second World War? Was the use of atomic weapons morally and militarily justified? What did the military leaders of the time say? What Biblical principles should guide us as to what are acceptable and unacceptable practices in war? What is the spiritual situation of Japan at this time? How can we best pray for Japan at this time?
Livingstone Fellowship
This Sunday, 12 July, the Livingstone Fellowship service at 11am, will consider the public consequences of private morality. "What a man sows, that shall he reap." Galatians 6:7. The Law of God warns believers against following what is popular: "You shall not follow a crowd to do evil…" Exodus 23:2. "Those who hate God, love death" Proverbs 8:36
May the Lord continue to be your joy and strength.
Yours for Reformation and Revival
